The contest is over, a winner has been announced, and it is not -- in the very specific sense of who is going to get the contest prizes -- our gang of Adrienne and Adam and Josh and Whit and everyone else at The Attack.
Congratulations to the Evil Emp.... I mean, the Waverly Group.
I will resist challenging the referees or the contest algorithm or whatever, although, well ... you know. Who's better than these incredibly talented kids? Nobody!
But but but but....
There is a next step, and it is just a matter of figuring it out. Our gang of Adrienne and Adam and Josh and Whit and everyone else at The Attack have had over 46,000 views of their "End of an Era" video so far. They have had over 34,000 views of their first-round sketch, "Goin' to Napa."
Those are big numbers. They will figure it out. I don't know anything about the entertainment biz. In the indie book publishing business, which I know pretty well, if you get 30 or 40 thousand people to eyeball the cover of your book, you have a hit.
I'm just saying.

"An End of an Era" - Livin' The Dream finale (Sketchies II)
We've all heard about incredibly creative, talented people trying to make their way in Hollywood, or wherever. Sometimes they make it, and it makes you feel really good when that happens, right? Far more often they don't, and others slip through because of some break they got along the way.
How great would it be if you had a chance to seriously influence the outcome for a few very talented young people who have been working hard for years at the craft of acting, comedy, writing, and producing terrific work?
You have that chance now. The Attack! absolutely rocks as a comedy troupe. They've come all the way through this fascinating, high-stakes comedy contest from hundreds of initial entries and just a few days ago they made the cut, the finals, the next to last step.
They need your help to get the biggest break of their young careers. Do not doubt it: you can make the difference!
Time is of the essence. The contest runs from now until 11:59 pm on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, so they need your votes and the votes of everyone you know between now and then. (Yes, that's votes, plural). It won't cost you a cent.
All you have to do to vote for them is follow these easy steps:
1. If you don't already have a Youtube account, create one by clicking on this link. It only takes a minute. Remember your user name and password.
2. Once you have a Youtube account, click on this link to go to the Sketchies2 contest. If you are using the same computer from which you created your Youtube account, Youtube will sign you in automatically. Otherwise, just click on "Log in" or "Sign in" and you'll be in. Important: your votes don't count unless you sign in to your Youtube account!
3. Go to The Attack! comedy sketch either by typing "Era" in the Search box and clicking on this little picture when it comes up
or by clicking on "Next Video>>" until you come to this one
4. Once the "An End of An Era" begins to play, click on the THUMBS UP button. It will turn green when your click registers. And you are done!
Unless you want to spend a little time helping to get the word out to your friends, family, colleagues, family pets, whomever....
It would be one thing to be able to say that you knew Adrienne, Adam, Josh and Whit before they got their first big break. But you will be able to say that you helped give them their first big break!
